This revolutionary technology is poised to change the passenger environment.

Imagine a material that comes to life when illuminated from behind, allowing you to paint with light, colour, and texture like never before. Envision a material so versatile it creates stunning sweeps of light throughout an aircraft cabin, yet also allows each passenger to individualize their environment using light, one seat at a time.

Introducing KYDEX® Lumina™, the latest innovation from SEKISUI SPI. A proprietary, opaque thermoplastic material, Lumina™ does more than redefine what thermoplastics can do in aviation interiors. It makes possible what designers have only dreamt of.

Manufactured with exclusive Infused Imaging™ technology, Lumina™ gives designers the power to craft truly bespoke experiences using colour and imagery. Beyond simply filtering light, Lumina™ actually transmits it, creating bold, new effects by dampening certain wavelengths and helping others shine more brightly. Lumina™ is not a lighting system. Rather, it’s a new way to customize the aircraft environment without the harsh edge or high cost of complex LED lighting systems.

An entirely new technology, Lumina™ expands the imagination by expanding what’s possible in aircraft interior design. It shapes and refracts light for passenger spaces like privacy screens, class dividers, galley and bar accents, backlit décor, individual passenger spaces, boarding area effects, enhanced fill panels, and more.

Lumina™ was inspired by lithophanes, etched artwork in very thin, translucent porcelain that can only be seen clearly when backlit with a light source. Developed in response to feedback from passengers regarding how they feel when they fly, Lumina™ leverages our research and development resources and was created independently by envisionaries at our designLab™ innovation center in Bloomsburg, Pennsylvania.

Lumina™ is available exclusively from SEKISUI SPI and is the newest thermoplastic material in our expanding product portfolio. In all thicknesses, Lumina™ meets flammability, heat release, and smoke development requirements outlined in FAR 25.853 (a) and (d). It has excellent formability characteristics and is resistant to chemical reagents and cleaners commonly used in aviation interiors.
