KYDEX® IM88

Low Smoke Injection Molding Compound for Mass Transportation

KYDEX® IM88 low smoke injection molding compound is a proprietary, high performance compound designed for use in mass transit vehicles such as subways, vans, buses, and trains.

KYDEX® IM88 meets the recommended fire safety practices of both the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) and the Federal Rail Administration (FRA) for smoke emission and flammability as tested under ASTM E-662 and ASTM E-162. It is the ideal material for parts used in rail and transit applications.

  • Injection molded trim pieces to cover seams or exposed edges when mating or joining KYDEX® thermoplastic components
  • End caps and snap fit covers
  • Meets flame spread and smoke development requirements listed in 49 CFR 238
  • Easy to clean graffiti/spray paint, lipstick, pen, grease and grime with cleaners such as Soft Scrub®, Fantastik®, and citrus based cleaners such as Citri Kleen HD® (avoid ammoniated cleaners)
  • Resistant to a wide range of concentrated chemicals and solvents, withstands frequent cleaning without staining or fading
  • Drying is not typically required, however, if drying is needed dry at 130°F for 4 hours.
  • Barrel temperatures are typically 315°F to 385°F.
  • Mold temperature should be between 90 and 140°F
  • Minimize the residence time in the barrel and keep melt temperature between 385°F and 405°F.
  • To achieve a homogeneous melt, keep sufficient back pressure (100-400 psi typical).
  • Before shutdown purge thoroughly and neutralize the mold.
